Corfu Avenue, Sunnydale, temporarily closed
06 June 2025
The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to notify residents and road users in the Sunnydale area that the access and exit at Corfu Avenue, off Old Kommetjie Road, will be temporarily closed. Read more below:
This temporary closure is necessary to address the current traffic congestion caused by road users who take shortcuts via Stork Street and Corfu Avenue from Kommetjie Main Road, while the current roadworks project is under way.
The temporary closure is planned from Thursday, 12 June 2025, until Tuesday, 30 September 2025.
'Residents are reminded that the work forms part of the current upgrade project involving the widening of Kommetjie Main Road between Capri Drive and Wood Road, a key project in the City’s Congestion Management Strategy, which will result in traffic congestion relief. Alternative routes to access Corfu Avenue from Kommetjie Main Road are available via Capri Drive and we will ensure that the road closure and detour signage is in place to direct motorists to Corfu Avenue or Kommetjie Main Road,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
Commuters who drive along Corfu Avenue must please note that traffic moving in both directions will be affected. The City thanks residents for their patience while the work is under way.
